How to deal with common side effects from GLP1-RA medications
 - Mild Nausea: It is common to feel nauseated with the GLP1-receptor agonist during the initial phase of administration or with uptitration of the dose. It tends to subside with continuation of therapy. Try drinking at least 2L of water/day (can add electrolytes e.g. Hydralyte), Try ginger/peppermint tea. If ongoing nausea, discuss with your clinician re: need for anti-emetic tablets (generally not recommended)

 - Constipation: it is also common to be constipated from the medication. Make sure to drink >2L of water/day. Try increasing dietary fibre intake or adding small amounts of supplemental fibre (e.g. Metamucil) each day. If required, can try laxatives e.g. coloxyl with senna

 - Dry mouth/Headache: with this medication is usually a sign that you are dehydrated from the medication. ensure adequate hydration >2L/day. Try adding electrolytes (e.g. Hydralyte) to ensure adequate absorption of fluids

 - Bloating/mild generalised abdominal discomfort: due to mechanism of GLP1-RA (refer to video), tends to subside with continuation of therapy. drinking >2L/day can also help

 - Lack of energy/tiredness: due to decreased calorie intake from the medication effect. Ensure having enough protein in your diet at least 1g/kg of your weight/day. If struggling to have this amount of protein with your diet. Try protein shakes

 - Hair loss: is not a direct known side effect of the medication however can occur with rapid weight loss (and is temporary, tends to regrow within 6 months once in maintenance phase). Ensure having adequate protein intake (>1g/kg of your weight/day). You can have iron, zinc, Vit D, B12, thyroid function checked as nutritional deficiencies may also contribute to hair loss (and take supplements if deficient).

 - Abdominal pain particularly right upper side: may be a sign of gallstones or pancreatitis. Please stop the medication immediately and go to emergency to get checked out. Let the doctors know you are taking this medication

 - Profuse vomiting/diarrhea: should stop the medication and focus on hydration. If severe, present to emergency department. If on a high dose and did not have the same issue on lower dose, can try recommencing the following week after symptoms subside at the lower dose
